Panel: The Art and Business of Breaking Barriers
LSESU Art Business Society, in collaboration with UAL Creative Entrepreneurs Society and UAL Curation Society, is pleased to announce a panel discussion with the artist Xin Liu and the gallerist Emilia Yin.
Emilia Yin and Xin Liu’s paths intersected early in their careers—Emilia had just launched her contemporary art gallery while pursuing a graduate degree in curation, and Xin Liu, fresh from MIT with a master’s in art, was beginning to establish herself as an interdisciplinary artist. A chance conversation between the two sparked a collaborative exhibition, which led to their first major review in Artforum. That was five years ago. Today, their exhibitions span the globe, leaving a lasting impression on some of the world’s most prestigious art platforms.
Emilia, now featured on Forbes 30 Under 30 (North America), is recognised for her work in championing Asian representation in the art world through her gallery, Make Room, in Los Angeles. She continues to mentor and guide a new generation of women in the art industry. Xin Liu, meanwhile, has been honored on Forbes 30 Under 30 (Asia) for her groundbreaking work as an artist-engineer, with residencies at SETI and the MIT Media Lab, exploring the intersection of art and space technology.
Together, these two remarkable, young asian women have carved a unique space in the international art scene. Join us to hear their stories firsthand—how they built successful careers as outsiders, the challenges they’ve faced, and the guiding forces that led to their current successes.
